The treatment of MS generally falls into two categories: symptom management and change the course of the disease by modifying the number and severity of attacks and the progression of disability.

Studies indicate that early treatment delays disability, presumably by decreasing the injury to the nervous system caused by the disease.

There is no curative treatment available for the MS. However, a number of medications can be used to treat the disease symptomatically. Corticosteroids are medications of choice for treating exacerbations. Recombinant Interferon-beta-1b as well as Interferon-beta-1a are successfully used to reduce the frequency and severity of relapses.
